Start: Minibus 20R from Tai Po Market Railway Station, get off at Wu Kau Tang
End: Bus 75K, minibus 20C to Tai Po Market Railway Station
It is very physically demanding for the long distance hike with loose gravel in part, and steep climbs up and down in a centain extent, not suit in summer.
1.At Wang Leng Au, there is a path going down to Wu Kau Tang.
2.At Tai Tung, there is a path on the left leading down via Ha Miu Tin to Wu Kau Tang.

At the end of Wu Kau Tang Road, the trail starts by following the the concrete path on the left of the pavilion with a map board beside the carpark. Passing the bridge then turning right at the junction, it soon comes to the entrance of Plover Cove Country Trail. Head the trail uphill, it ascends the steps in the woods then opens up gradually. Along the way, Pat Sin Leng and Bride's Pool could be seen. Afterward, it turns gently up. Beyond several hillsides, the trail leads to the hilltop of Ma Tau Fung. At the top, you could overlook the long dam of Plover Cove Reservoir, on the otherside, Wu Kau Tang and the hill of Tiu Tang Lung. Gazing on the undulated rolling hills ahead, it seems to be boundless.
Tai Tung
Along the trail, it begins a steep descent and turns slightly rugged. Through the woods, it climbs the hill of Chek Ma Tau (near the signpost C2604). Continuing on along the trail, it treks on the steep slopes covered with loose gravel. After contouring along the undulated ridgeline, it comes to Kai Tsai Tung with a range pole at its hilltop, where is the highest point of the hill range of Wang Leng. Afterward, head the trail not far, it leads to the path junction at Wang Leng Au. The left fork at the junction could goes downhill and then return to Wu Kau Tang. Follow the right path to Luk Wu Tung. Passing over the several hillsides, it arrives at the next junction at Tai Tung.
Exit: At the junctions of Wang Leng Au and Tai Tung (C2609), there are the side paths respectively leading downhill then returning to Wu Kau Tang.
Kwun Yam Tung and Luk Wu Tung
From the junction, continue to head the trail to the right for the way to Luk Wu Tung. Through the smooth sylvan path, the red gravel could be sometimes seen on the ground. After the ascent, it comes to Kwun Yam Tung. Go ahead further, Hung Shek Mun and Double Island are within the sight on the right in the distance. Along the ridgeline, it passes through the junction of left obscure path that leads down to Hung Shek Mun (opposite to the warning notice). Afterward, it descends the flight of steps to Hung Shek Mun Au, beyond the valley, then climbs up and becomes rugged slightly. Coming to the terrain of red rock and heading the trail further, it arrives at Luk Wu Tung. Overlooking around, it offers a splendid full view over Plover Cove Reservoir with the indented coastline.

Via Ngor Kai Teng to Cheung Pai Tun
From Luk Wu Tun, follow the right path downhill. It soons descends the long flight of steps. Passing through the hillside of Ngor Kai Teng, it starts the steep rugged path downward with full of loose gravel, that would slightly require to clamber. Over the several hillsides, it turns gentle but is covered loose gravel in part. Overlooking on the left, Tolo Channel and the remote mountains in Sai Kung could be seen. Gazing the coast, it is unforgettable for the clear offshore water and the azure sea water. Sometimes, the speedboats and fishing boats shuttle through the channel and generate the waves. In contrast to the reservoir on the other side, it is very tranquil like a large mirror. Head the trail, you could see the picturesque scenery over Lo Fu Wat. Because of the good water quality in the inlet, there was also a pearl farm in the past. Afterward, along the trail through the woods, it gently up to Cheung Pai Tun.

Tai Mei Tuk
Continue on along the trail ahead, it soon descents the steep downhill path with loose gravel. After contouring along the hillsides, it leads down to the short dam. Follow the steps at the end of the dam, it then comes to the second short dam. Passing along the dam, it arrives at Pak Sha Tau. Finally, trace the concrete road ahead, pass through the gate, then follow the main dam to Tai Mei Tuk.
Summary
The long trail passes through many undulated hillsides with loose gravel in part. Other than Wang Leng Au and Tai Tung in the front section, it is no branch path to exit. Moreover, for less shade trees along the way, it is more physically demanding and quite challenging but offers a lot of majestic landscapes around the reservoir.
